Law Practice

David McKinney is a registered patent attorney practicing primarily in the areas of domestic and foreign patent prosecution and licensing.  His specific areas of practice include a wide range of technologies including mechanical and medical devices, video display and projection systems, and nuclear waste disposal methods.  Mr. McKinney has prepared opinions concerning patentability, infringement, and validity for clients in a wide range of business areas.  He is a licensed professional civil engineer.

Prior to joining the firm, in private practice, Mr. McKinney served as outside patent counsel for the Hewlett-Packard Company for more than eight years and as outside patent counsel for the Idaho National Laboratory.  He also worked as an intern at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.  Before pursuing a legal career, Mr. McKinney worked as a civil engineer for Keller Associates in Boise.    

Mr. McKinney is active in civic affairs and is currently a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission for West Jordan, Utah.  He is licensed to practice in the state of Utah.
